Airbus at it again...If you can't build a better plane, just sell them for a loss. This is nothing new for Airbus, they have been doing this since day one. Let the European Union flip the bill and then they can just barely keep up with the Boeing.

Most of the production output will benefit the A330, which would come off the line at nine aircraft per month; only one A340 would be built. Despite the lower order intake for the four-engine A340, Airbus isn't giving up on the program just yet. Leahy insists the fuel-burn cost disadvantage compared with Boeing's 777 can be subsidized by the aircraft maker. Airbus officials say sales will continue of all three A340 versions, the CFM56-powered -300 and the Rolls-Royce Trent 500-powered -500/600.

They have done this with the A320 for years. I suppose that they will do the same thing with the A350 (when they decide what the A350 will be like). Don't get me wrong, It would be tragic if Airbus fails as an aircraft maker...we would all loose then because then Boeing will have no one to fly against and we would all have shitty aircraft because of it. I like competition, it drives us all to be better but Boeing vs. Airbus is like the two are at a track meet and the judge asks Boeing to run with only one shoe. The USA does not flip the bill for Boeing...they have come out on top because they build a far superior aircraft. The only reason why Airbus is still in the race at all is because the European Union pays the way. I wish Boeing had not bought up all its other US based competitors..because I honestly feel with how the A380 is going...Airbus might not be around too many more years.
